You know, I have to tell you, it's awefully humbling when your 3 year old can teach you about love. I suppose he knows the emotion and it's healing power so well is because his mother and I taught him/showed him love. Then again, who am I? God Himself said "And love is the greatest of these."
The other day, my son, Brennan, preached it again. My wife and I still disagree on the future of our marriage. I don't see an end in site. She won't budge. Nor will I, because I will not surrender my marriage to this world and defeat no matter how painful Satan'a attack. And how painful has it been? Let me tell you.....OUCH!
As I was saying, the other day, I am talking to my lovely wife as Brennan looks on. We are close enough to embrace but it's as if there's an invisible wall between us. Out of left field, Brennan whispers to his Mom "Mom, tell Daddy you love him." Now understand, this has been hard for her to say in past months and devastating for me not to hear. As we continue our talk, he whispers again "Mom, tell my Daddy you love him! Tell him Mom" He turns to me and says "What? I'm not saying anything." LOL Then he repeats his request yet again to Mom. Well, she turns to me and says those 3 priceless words. I repeat them. As we softly kiss, it occurs to me the wisdom this 3 year old possesses. More over, it occurs to me the agape love this precious child has for his Mom and Dad. Sometimes our kid know what's best for us! And parents, as you can see, there is a good reason to keep up on the kids' allowance, LOL
A friend shared this poem with me when I told this story. And folks, just love your spouse. Is it so hard to speak words of affirmation and kindness? Shouldn't it be as easy as speaking put-downs and insults?
The Lord ordained Marriage and it isn't His will that any should be dissolved!
Dear Jesus,
Though I’m very small and only the age of three,
I know there’s something wrong in this big world surrounding me.
As I listen very closely I begin to get afraid.
I can’t hear my daddy anymore,
Or feel the soft touches he made.
Daddy was a loving man and was always so near,
I just can’t understand what would be keeping him from here.
I miss how he kissed Mommy is such a gentle way,
And promised we would be a family in some nearing day.
I miss how he held us both so tight and so close,
But the way he used to talk to me,
I miss that the most.
Daddy would tell me, that Mommy is the best out there,
So I had to be easy on her and treat her with great care.
Daddy wasn't perfect but Mommy don't you see,
There's no one else in this world I want to be holding me.
You see Jesus; I need Daddy here with Mommy and me,
Then together we can grow and be a true family.
I’m so very small and don’t know where to begin,
So Jesus please put Mommy and Daddy back together again.
