In order for a couple to actually marry in the 1st century (around Jesus's time) they had to go through a year period of living together. This was a "spousal" living arrangement, but the catch was they were not allowed to sleep with eachother before the actual marriage. If they did sleep with eachother, everyone would know because no birth control, so oops theres a baby. Now if the woman got pregnant, what usually happened in the patriarchal society is the man would regain his honor by defaming the fiance and leaving her to a life of poverty and scorn. The father of the daughter was also allowed to "disown" the daughter (I heard also kill her but im sure it was kept quiet) to regain the family honor.
SO this is what Mary and Joseph were going through when Mary was pregnant, and instead of defaming Mary and rejecting her for being pregnant (and in addition not by him), he stayed with her.
Anyways, dating is biblical.

Yea, that's a good point but what I ment was that our view of "dating" is much different than what people did in Jesus's day. Most of the time they were betrothed, like Mary and Joseph. Today, we choose who we go out with and who we marry. That's the problem. We don't ever listen or pray to see if God wants us to be with that person or not. So what I really ment was that this century's definition of "dating" is not Biblical. God Bless! Rebecca

I don't know that dating is biblical or non biblical but take it from someone who married the wrong person the first time around it is definitely the time to learn the true person and not wait until after a marriage to find out who they are. I think alot of things are possible to allow sin and be wrong or can be wonderful and fulfilling it's all in how we handle it and the choices we make during. Dating would be a good example. We can engage in premarital sex and we can test the boundaries of the relationship or we can get to know the person on a more spiritual level and test the compatibility in a way which would be pleasing to God and ultimately open the door to discover His will in the situation. JMO but dating could be Great or Horible. Depending on "US" and the choices we make how we go about it.

ok, i really, really, REALLY diagree. its juss an opinion but i really don't think that a girl should have her first kiss on the day of her wedding cerimony!! and also, wouldn't it be a little wierd if one of your good guy friends suddenly asked you to marry him, even though youd never even gone out with him????
anyway, juss an opinion, so pleaz don't be offended.

Everyone has there own opinion. I'm not dating either and won't until i find the right one. I have dated before and it only lead to heartache, plus i put God aside and i want to jus focus on him. I know he has the right guy out there for me and i will find them one day until the Christ is my true love and i wanna be the best bride i can for him.
