Catholics and Christians

The following blog was posted on myspace by one of my brother's friends named Jennifer. This blog lead someone who was once Catholic to Christ and I think it is an amazing thing if it can do that.

People who read my poetry and go to my website and don't know me almost invariably assume I'm Catholic. WHY?? I cannot understand it. Then I have other people telling me that they're Catholic, so they're Christian, right? because they honestly don't understand the difference between Catholicism and Christianity. To begin with, Catholicism is one of the most corrupted religions out there. They have bishops molesting children, including male clergy assulting male children; homosexual clergy; and their disrespect of the Bible. They added books to it, took some out, then declare pieces of it to be untrue. I mean, seriously, a religion needs some consistency! Not to mention some of the basic theological docrines, such as the appointing of saints. Catholics believe that some people who live their lives exceptionally "holy" should be promoted to saint status after their deaths. These deceased people are then reveranced and prayed to. Catholics apparently don't mind that they're commiting a sin when they do this: "Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or anyone who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord, and because of these detestable practices the Lord you God will drive out those nations before you" (Deuteronomy 18:10-12 NIV, emphasis added). In addition, a person does not have to be some nun or freakin Mother Teresa to become a saint. Paul writes to the church at Ephesus to keep praying for all the saints, and about the inheritance of the saints (Ephesians 1:18; 6:18). Paul is not talking about a select group of super-believers, but of all the true believers in Christ Jesus. Therefore, anyone who believes in God is a saint. The bottom line is that the emphasis should not be placed on mere humans, but on God in his glory and divinity. This includes Mary, the mother of Jesus. She should not be prayed to, consulted, or revered in any way above Christ. Catholics paint pictures of her, make statues of her, and pray to her. This is not right, and is not in accordance with orthodox Christianity. I suppose if you want to compare the two religions of Christianity and Catholicism, look at America and Mexico. Both were founded at the same time, by roughly the same people, with the same resources and opportunities. Two hundred years later, America has become a super-power and leader of the world, while Mexico is impoverished in poverty. The only difference is that America is founded on Christianity, and Mexico on Catholocism. Need I say more?
