Let’s Try It Again!

Misty held her big brother’s hand in a vise-like grip. Her eyes widened as she took in the incredible scene playing out before her. There, atop the best sledding hill in all of Connecticut, her eighty-year-old grandmother was preparing for the ride of her life.


Poised on the toboggan, she sat as royalty, her long fur coat wrapped around her legs and her fur cap pinned perfectly into place. A small push on the snow with her elegant gloved hand...and she was off.

Halfway down the hill, the toboggan toppled to the side, and Misty watched in horror as her grandmother did an amazing acrobatic move through the snow, tumbling three times before sliding to halt midway. Running full tilt to the rescue, Misty arrived breathless before a disheveled lump of fur.

Rosy cheeks appeared beneath a fur cap that was relocated to cover one ear. Snow was encrusted in the hair surrounding her face, and her bright, mischievous eyes met misty’s fearful gaze. With the confident laugh of one who loves God and knows of His care, Grandmother grabbed hold of misty’s hand and said, “Again! Let’s try it again!”

If you ask, God will give you the confidence to step into life’s adventures, knowing that His hand will always be there to catch you.


Confidence in the natural world is self-reliance,
in the spiritual world it is God- reliance.

The question for today is “It would take a big dose of courage for me to try?
